Summer 2025
Breaking Silence Movement – Legal & Political Strategy Intern
In the summer of 2025, I was privileged to take part in the internship program of Breaking Silence Movement (BSM), an NGO which focuses on addressing gender-based violence (GBV) all around the world. As a member of the Legal Aid department, I worked there for one month as a Legal Intern and then for another two months as a Political Strategy & Engagement Intern.
The internship in BSM was my first professional experience at an international nonprofit. Initially, I was concerned about working within the foreign legal and political system and actively taking part in the development of advocacy projects. During the internship, I learned how to conduct the legal research, write advocacy material, communicate with the representatives of other departments and deal with the sensitive subject like GBV through different cultural lenses.
Thus, I have gained some important experience of working with various sources, writing texts, analyzing policies, and engaging in cross-cultural communication. It helped me understand the interaction between global strategies and local circumstances as well as to witness the effects of the advocacy work in person.
Through this experience, I developed critical skills in research, writing, policy analysis, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration. I also gained a deeper understanding of how global frameworks and local contexts intersect to address complex social issues. Working with BSM allowed me to see the direct impact of advocacy efforts on communities and the importance of thoughtful, informed engagement in international human rights work.
This internship not only strengthened my academic and professional skills but also reaffirmed my passion for international relations and human rights advocacy. I am grateful to continue supporting BSM and to carry these lessons into future opportunities in diplomacy, international policy, and nonprofit work.
